A Few Tips for Running a Medical Office in a Tough Economy.
We came across this article in Web Articles.com and thought many of the tips and tasks were helpful advice.
1 – An effective piece of medical office software is becoming a must have. Software can help you check patient eligibility with insurance companies to make sure the patient is covered for insurance. This is a repetitive task that may be taking up too much of your employee's time. Have the software do this for you.
2 - Check patient balances when they are calling for an appointment and remind them of any outstanding balance before they even get to their appointment. Ask them to bring a check or credit card with them to appointment to pay off the outstanding balance.
3 - Collect patient deductibles and insurance co-pays at time of service. Offer different payment options.
4 – Follow up on all insurance denials or rejections. If you need help making these follow up calls, contact ORI.
5 - Schedule efficiently to fill up your schedule.
6 - Immediately bill any claim to the patient if the insurance company denies it.
7 - Send patient statements at least monthly. The more current contact your office is able to have with the patient, the more likely it is you will be paid in full. Consider ORI’s FirstMed Contact service for recent aging accounts.
